Hello all! My name is Will Farlessyost and I am your Resource Coordinator for the summer. For those of you who don't know who I am, you're in luck. To your left you'll see a picture of me demonstrating the Leave No Trace principle “Disposing of Waste Properly”. Always make sure to pack out any trash you may make or find. And if its recyclable? Yep, that's right. Recycle it!
I'm super excited to be back for my second summer. Last year was my first summer at Alta Mons and easily the best time of my life. But what's even better than getting to work at camp during the summer? Working at camp during the summer AND getting to work on camp stuff even when it's not summer to make this summer another awesome camp experience for the staff and campers. Right now that means interviewing applicants to be counselors and CITs and trying to find those fun, friendly, outdoorsy people who really want to work with kids. You know the ones. Camp people! I'm also starting to plan CIT training. CIT training gives our Counselors in Training the experience of a Senior High week at camp as well as teaching them the skills they'll need when helping with their Elementary Units.
When I'm not working on camp things, I'm a sophomore Sustainable Technology major at Appalachian State. To me, working to make God's creation, our world, a place that future generations will want to live in is very important. The creativity, enthusiasm, kindness, loyalty, and adventurous spirit of the campers and staff of Camp Alta Mons reminds me both why this matters as well as why it's possible. Knowing that these wonderful people, both campers and staff, will go back out into the world and continue doing Christ's work is super awesome and makes me proud to work at Alta Mons.
Please continue to keep our campers and counselors in your prayers and start getting excited. Summer is just a few more snows away!
Yours in God's Creation,
Will Farlessyost
