Hello there! My name is Tiana Cole and I will be serving as the Cookout Coordinator this summer. I loved being a camp counselor last year, and I am very excited to come back to camp again this year as a coordinator!
I grew up just over the mountain in Christiansburg, and have hiked Stiles falls many times. However, I had never been to summer camp at Alta Mons. On a hike to the falls, I saw a summer camp poster that said “counselors needed”. I was not very religious, but I loved working with kids and decided to apply. I was accepted soon after. Never having been to camp, I arrived to staff training unsure of what I had gotten myself into. Little did I know that I just made one of the best decisions of my life.
I am positive that God sent me to camp last year to find Him. For the first time, I saw Alta Mons as a place full of love and worship, not just a place to hike. Every corner of camp now carries a wonderful memory for me. From singing around a campfire at The Hut, to stargazing in the back 400, to having heartfelt conversations outside Hogan 9, it’s hard not to see the beauty of God everywhere at camp. Because of camp, I found God, and my only hope is to facilitate that experience for others.
When I’m not at camp, I am studying to be a nurse at East Carolina University. I graduate this December and plan to start working in pediatrics. Aside from school, I also serve as a toddler room teacher at my church and participate in a yearly medical mission trip to Honduras to staff a free clinic for a small, remote village.
I have found fulfillment in serving God through my work with children and I am excited to continue this work as both a nurse and camp coordinator. I can’t wait to meet each and every one of you this summer!
Yours in Summer Camp Love,
Tiana Cole
