As Alta Mons moves into its winter season with every falling leaf, we prepare for what the New Year will bring! This fall we held our First Annual Roanoke District Cookout and enjoyed fellowship with many of our community members. This event was the start of new programming and seasonal planning at Alta Mons.
Changes are happening each day and with the addition of two new staff members, we have more minds helping bring about updates to our facilities and our goals.
Here are a few things that are in the works for the New Year.
If you’ve been for a visit recently, you know that our Staff House – Brookside has been under construction since last Spring. This house has been a home to most every Summer Staff member since the late 80’s. The humidity in the valley and the building’s age contributed to its disrepair and unkempt state. We have knocked down several interior walls and begun redesign work on the outside. We hope to have the building completed by next spring, as this will be housing for our Interns in the summer.
Next year we’ll also be having a Family Day Camp after the summer ends! As part of the Alta Mons goals – we are always working to have all age groups in our program. We planned a family camp for the Summer of 2013 but only received one registration. Next year we’ll hold our Day Camp at the beginning of Fall to bring out parents and kids alike!
The Winter Program for 2014 is currently in the works. Alta Mons held a Winter Camp for two seasons, but last year we didn’t have enough camper interest or time to put the program together. In 2014 we’ll bring this program back, and we’re looking forward to seeing the campers here once more!
That’s three seasons of Alta Mons in one quick glance. We've got a lot going on and we're hard at working to make sure 2014 starts without a hitch!
