Hello!
My name is Nolan Englund and I served as the Pool Coordinator this past summer.
This is my second year on the coordinator team and I enjoyed every minute of it. As the pool coordinator, I get the unique perspective of getting to meet all of the campers for the week, as every unit gets pool time at least once throughout the week. I made it a personal goal to try to learn all of the kids’ names, which can become fairly difficult with 60+ children and only a week to learn. I also have the opportunity to teach campers that are willing to learn, techniques that help them become stronger swimmers, or to just not be afraid of going in the water. It is very heartwarming to see the smile on a camper’s face when they stick their head underwater for the first time, jump in the deep end (supervised of course), or swim from one side of the pool to the other without stopping.
Outside of the pool, I get to interact with the campers in different ways, such as helping to lead camp worship, giving wagon rides, or even helping to facilitate night ropes. It is a nice change of scenery to be able to help out around other parts of camp outside of my designated program area, and gives me a chance to see how campers enjoy Alta Mons away from the pool deck.
