My name is Meredith Mathews and by day (and by day I mean fall through spring) I am a Mechanical Engineering student at Virginia Tech but by night (and by night I mean summer) I am your Pool Coordinator! Finally as it is starting to warm up to a sultry 60 degrees outside I can truly dream of the sunny days I will soon spend at Camp Alta Mons hanging out with all of my favorite coordinators, counselors and campers. Here is a quick rundown of my story:
It was the spring of 2013 and coming out of my freshman year of college I had zero job prospects for the summer. I ended up being swayed to apply to work at Camp Alta Mons by one of my close friends fondly known as “The Other Meredith." She was just so obsessed with the place that I had to give it a shot. After an awesome and easy interview process I found myself preparing for my first camp counselor role and one of the best times of my life. I spent the summer amazed by how much I was learning about myself and the incredible people I was working with. I was able to embrace three of my favorite things: working with youth, being in the outdoors and having a BLAST! Fast forward to summer of 2014 and you find me employed as an applications engineer at a manufacturing plant working towards my ultimate career goal. While I absolutely loved my job last summer, I felt that something was missing from my life. I recently realized while participating in winter camp that the thing I was missing was summer camp! So this year I am returning by popular demand to Alta Mons hoping to bring back the love and joy into my heart that only Alta Mons can.
