Summer Staff Recruitment is in full swing now for Alta Mons! We’re calling on friends and past staff to help us find the next generation of staff members! So far, we’ve had much more success on the female side of things—why on Earth boys are shy to apply to spend their entire summer out in the wilderness I am not really sure. Whatever the case may be, we have been working hard to recruit elementary and junior high counselors. On March 13th, Sarah Kate and I visited Eastern Montgomery High School and got to relive our high school days as well as get a good first run at how to recruit at a high school. On March 15th we will travel to my Alma Matter Hidden Valley High School, with high hopes that our Dollar General candy will lure in the male staff candidates! We’ll keep y’all updated as our search for boy counselors continues! In the meantime, if you know any Eagle Scouts or outdoorsy, Jesus-loving boys, please, PLEASE have them apply to work at Alta Mons!
In other news, the camp brochure came out a couple weeks ago (it looks GREAT) and the paper copies are scheduled to be out within the week! So what does this mean? Time to start getting kids signed up to be campers! This is one of the aspects of my job that I am most excited about--I love convincing parents and kids that they should come to camp for a week and experience Alta Mons and all it has to offer. I have high hopes for the camper turnout this summer, so let’s all work together to try and have as many campers as possible! I can promise that they’ll have the experience of a lifetime and will remember it forever. And who knows, if they’re like me and just can’t get enough of camp, maybe they’ll work at Alta Mons one day like so many of our past staff members. Even Sarah Kate was a camper!
The Cliff notes: We need male staff and we need LOTS of campers! Let’s all pull together our resources to get both of these goals accomplished so that this coming summer Alta Mons can be packed full of God’s children learning about Him and worshiping Him in the beautiful wilderness.
Peace, Love, & Jesus Christ,
Meredith Simmons
Program Intern
PS- My next blog will focus on the daunting task of me learning Willie Jack stories! If you have any tips or want to submit any Willie Jack stories (or any camp history, for that matter!) feel free to e-mail me at simmons_meredith@yahoo.com.
