Alta Mons welcomes Liz Van Pelt as our new Day-Program Intern!
It’s my second year on Alta Mons’s staff, and I am honored that I’m invited back as the day camp intern. I’m finishing up my third year at Virginia Tech, in geosciences, hoping to pursue a Masters in Education and continue as a secondary education teacher.
Currently, I’m balancing Alta Mons work with academics, another job with VT dining services, and a ballet company. I love to dance and I hope to incorporate that into the day camp program this year. As a geology student, I’d also love to include the sciences into camp to provide an educational experience for the campers, (DINOS)!
As for faith building, I want to have a daily activity that will allow the children to grow spiritually. Part of our Alta Mons theme this year is “No child shall be turned away or left out because of their faith.” It would be awesome for the kids to learn about other religions because they will most likely meet friends and family members who don’t share their same faith. Moral values can be taught by multiple religions, and it’s important for children to learn that while still holding on to their strong Christian background.
As an intern, I want to provide a comfortable, safe, educational, sanctuary for the campers. I also want to encourage the counselors to challenge our children spiritually in hopes that their faith will grow continually
throughout their lives. As I compile and finalize the day camp schedule, I will hope that I’ll encompass faith, education, adventure, and companionship into the program!
