DOMINIK FIRLEJ | ROPES COORDINATOR 2019

3/1/2019

Hey Everyone! My name is Dominik Firlej, it is my second year at Alta Mons and I’m going to be serving as the Ropes Coordinator this summer. I came to Alta Mons as a camp counselor and have found so much to love here that I wanted to come back and contribute a little bit more this year and I’m very excited about it!

I’m a Freshman at Newport News University and I’m double majoring in English and History. I love to read about the world we live in, but more than that I love to experience God and nature. This is what initially drew me to Alta Mons. There’s nothing I find more relaxing than spending the day hiking and the night under the stars. Alta Mons gave me a place to explore my spirituality while being really connected not only to nature and the people around me but to God. I find that I feel most at peace with myself and God when I’m out in nature and trying new things that are out of my comfort zone. That's why this year I wanted to focus on the ropes courses! I think they provide a wonderful opportunity for kids to reach outside their comfort zones while in a completely safe and controlled environment.

Throughout my time at camp I have learned more about myself than I thought possible in just 2 weeks of staff training and 4 weeks of camp. I learned that sometimes I need to draw on the spiritual strength of others. Nothing was quite as uplifting as going to worship after a day full of surprises and challenges. That atmosphere really taught me a lot about myself, about camp, but most importantly it showed me just how good this was for the kids. Camp is such a wonderful place full of love, support, and faith and I cannot wait to make this coming year unique in its own way.

I can’t wait to help expand horizons this year at Alta Mons.

Yours in Summer Camp Love,

Dominik Firlej
