Alta Mons: Outdoor and Retreat Ministry

Mission of the UMC:
To make disciples of Jesus Christ for the Transformation of the World.
 
Alta Mons Vision Statement:
A welcoming place apart: nurturing disciples and transforming lives.
 
Alta Mons Mission Statement:
To provide each person space to experience God through our Christian Hospitality, Facilities and Programs.

Seven Core Values:
We are an outreach/extension ministry of the United Methodist Church. To be a welcoming place apart, nurturing disciples and transforming lives we maintain Seven Core Values of all our programming.

    1. Spiritual Development – we believe that discipleship is the most effective Christian way of teaching. We offer programs that nurture Christian Discipleship and encourage all persons to deepen in their faith.
    2. Environmental Awareness – As God made Adam (creature of the earth) out of Adamah (the earth) we seek to encourage and offer a place for all people to practice earth care and reunite their relationship and understanding of the outdoors.
    3. Leadership Development – through outreaching programs that are challenging we seek to grow all persons in skills of leadership and group development.
    4. Experiential Learning – we believe that personal experience is the best way of learning. We seek to facilitate our programs using “teachable moments” that allow the activity to be the teacher. Models build on the experiences learners are having in their life together in the midst of creation. As much as possible, the outdoors is used as the setting for learning.
    5. Stewardship – we seek to guide all persons in the understanding that their lives, time, talents, and resources are given by God for our care. Stewardship is a desire to care for our given resources out of responsibility for action.
    6. Community – we seek to provide a welcoming, safe and caring environment for people of all ages. We strive to do this by sharing Christ's love with our guests, by reaching out to our community, and giving them ways to contribute to the common good.
    7. FUN – experiential education incorporates play as a vital component of learning. If we are not having fun, then we are not doing it well!

In addition to our adoption of a strong mission statement and core values, Alta Mons has embraced the Seven Core Values of United Methodist Christian Camping and Retreat Ministries:

    1. Provide intentional places apart to encounter God
    2. Extend genuine Christian hospitality and community
    3. Nurture Christian faith and discipleship
    4. Develop Christian Spiritual Leaders
    5. Teach creation care and appreciation
    6. Collaborate with United Methodist churches & agencies
