Camp Alta Mons, as our year round Camps are referred to, builds upon our mission and vision to provide space for everyone to experience God, from campers, to volunteers, to staff. Through experiential learning, Camp Alta Mons blends traditional camp activities with a Christian message by providing a fun, challenging, unique Christian experience in the out-of-doors. The summer camp program focuses on six aspects that help define our mission: Spirituality, Environment, Leadership, Stewardship, Community, all in a FUN and safe environment. Campers are placed in a Family Unit composed of 12-14 campers of children and youth. Family units are made up of 7 males with a male counselor and 7 females with a female counselor. Each family unit plans its own activities according to their abilities and interests. Counselors guide and facilitate the activities with the assistance of program staff. Around 100 campers may attend each of the 4 sessions. Each session is for 5 nights and 6 days. 35-40 trained staff work with each session of summer camp. Campers experience living out Biblical stories as they do daily activities including: hiking, field games, cooperation course, swimming, fishing, cookouts, nature, crafts, morning and evening devotions.

Preschoolers Learn to GardenMini Camp (rising 1st-3rd grade) Campers will get a taste of living in cabins and the opportunity to develop significant Christian
relationships. This 3-day, 2 night introductory session provides a safe and comfortable experience in resident camping. We encourage parents to accompany their children through registration and meeting of counselors. Activities will include hiking, crafts, swimming, singing and campfire vesper programs.

Elementary-age (rising 3rd-6th grade) Campers live with their counselors in cabins that sleep 8 persons with bunk beds and lights. The bath houses and Dining Hall are near the cabins. Program activities are by coed units of up to 14 campers and two counselors.
Campers also get an opportunity for a night camping out under a tent during Home-in-the-woods. During this overnight experience, campers cook over an open fire, enjoy smores, stories, and more. Throughout the week campers will join in interactive Bible lessons as they meet characters, play games, sing songs, and share in the community of new friends.

Junior High (rising 6th-9th Grade) campers sleep in Hogans Sites. These sites are more rustic and set further into the woods. Meals are prepared mainly in their outdoor kitchen. Program activities are more advanced for the older age group and include all the previous activities in addition to high ropes adventure and learning greater group living skills in the outdoors. Campers will continue to grow in their spiritual journey as they experience living in community and group study.

Junior High Adventure (rising 7th-9th Grade) units go out of camp on one or two day/overnight trips such as biking, river canoeing/kayaking, backpacking and lake water sports in addition to traditional onsite activities.

Sr High Resident (rising 9th-11th Grade) will have a traditional camp experience, living in community in the hogans while enjoying more activities and independence. Sr High campers also spend one day out on a guided service project helping the community.

Sr High Adventure (rising 10th-12th Grade) will spend one or two days/overnight on an adventure trip out of camp in addition to traditional onsite activities. Challenges are at a High School level.

The staff of Camp Alta Mons helps build Christian community and affirm the self worth of all campers through the camp activities, cabin discussions, group worship, campfires and all while having a GREAT time! Counselors and staff blend the traditional camp activities with biblically oriented “teachable moments” that build upon their own faith journey in relation to the summer theme. We rely on Volunteers from local churches who typically serve for one week at a time and as , Camp Nurses, Chaplains, counselor aides, and kitchen assistants. For more information on joining our staff or being a volunteer visit our Staff/Volunteer page.

Please refer to the Schedule page for camp dates and information. Click here for availability and to download a camp brochure for complete information about this summer's program.

Alta Mons also helps to provide meals to children through the USDA Summer Food Service Program. We have been a part of this program for a number years and are committed to providing a nutritious and well balanced meal for all children.

Mission Camp

Camp Alta Mons has recently begun to hold camps for mission groups/teams who are interested in working on the camp or doing home repair type work in the community. The camps are typically for groups that include both youth and adults. (Arrangements can be made for younger children to accompany their parents.) Mission "weeks" normally start on Sunday evening and end on Saturday. The week may include low ropes team building, high ropes activities, swimming (during the summer season), worship, meals, lodging, tools, materials, work projects on the camp and/or in the community, and (from May-September) a canoe trip on the New River. Lodging and meals are normally provided. We can work out a package suitable for your group to give you the opportunity to let God's love shine through your service.
